SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. This is where as a Search Engine Marketeer you spend 16 hours banging your head on your marketing project. Then waiting until the next day after the search engines have ran their updates to see if your procedures worked this day.
The standard definition that I give is : “Search engine marketing is a form of marketing on the Internet that promotes websites by increasing the URL visibility in search engines result pages (SERPs) utilizing social networking, blog marketing, directory placement and contextual advertising. ”
Then it is back to the grind stone to improve your or your clients site position in the search engines. Some sites work better than others in getting its claws in rank placement in search engines.
One site that I started went from 0 to number 19 out of 166,000,000 other sites utilizing the keywords “discount wii games” in about 7-8 months. Start October 2008 until May 2009. That is not bad second page in Google, but I must do better.
I try to start with a good domain name that has the keywords I need in it.
